DIMAPUR — The Micro, Small, & Medium Enterprises (MSME) development and facilitation office, 6th Mile, Sovima, organised a one-day awareness programme on the MSE-CDP cluster scheme in Nagaland at the District Industries Centre (DIC) in Kohima on Wednesday.

The programme was organised in association with the DIC and the Ministry of MSME.

Speaking on the occasion, A Temjen Jamir, director of Industries and Commerce, urged the young entrepreneurs to make use of the government’s financial and non-financial assistance, as well as to collaborate and network with one another, adding that the incentives provided can reduce their financial burden.

Maintaining that MSME will create a supportive ecosystem and foster a sense of belonging, he encouraged them to have a mindset of being able to perform their best because competition has become tougher over the years and there will be no takers in the market unless they produce the best quality.

MSME, according to Jamir, empowers people from all walks of life, including women, youth, and marginalised communities, and they provide opportunities for entrepreneurship, self-employment, and income generation, thereby enabling social and economic inclusion.

He said that with adequate support, MSME can contribute to poverty reduction and reduce income inequality.

They are critical drivers of economic growth, employment generation, innovation, and inclusive development, according to the director, who added that governments, policymakers, and stakeholders should recognise and support the growth of MSME through favourable policies, infrastructure development, access to finance, capacity-building programmes, and market linkages.

Countries can improve their economic landscape and create a conducive environment for entrepreneurship by nurturing and empowering MSME, he said.

Taliwati Longchar, joint director, DIC, stated that MSME is second only to agriculture in terms of employment generation, and that MSME can accelerate employment, which will contribute to the state’s and nation’s economic growth.

He said that the department is doing its best to develop infrastructure in the state to assist the first generation of entrepreneurs, and that its mission is to promote the growth and development of MSME and to strengthen the manufacturing base by improving MSME’s performance through skill and entrepreneurship development.

While briefing the entrepreneurs on different schemes, Longchar encouraged the entrepreneurs to utilise the knowledge and technology that are being provided through the schemes for their own benefit and that of the state as a whole.

The inaugural session was followed by a technical session in which Golmei, branch manager, Bank of Maharashtra, Kohima, emphasised the importance of bank financial support to MSME, and Pezalhoulie Kets, inspector, DIC, Kohima, emphasised the importance of UDYAM registration for entrepreneurs.
