Awareness on gender sensitive justice held in Longleng
DIMAPUR — The District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), in collaboration with Sakhi-One Stop Centre (OSC), Longleng, organised a one-day interactive session on ‘Awareness on gender sensitive justice for safety and security of the girl child and her ecosystem with police officers, constables and judiciary’, was held at Women Police Station, Longleng on Monday.
According to a DIPR report, the interactive session focused on woman-related issues, schemes, challenges and responsibilities.
Psychosocial counsellor at Sakhi-OSC, Longleng, Nyangyungsangla Phom, disseminated information on the functioning of Sakhi-OSC, the various services available and how to avail of them.
She also spoke about the different types of assistance provided for the aggrieved women, including legal aid, medical and police assistance and counselling services at the centre. She also briefed the gathering about women helpline number 181, which is available 24×7.
Further, the counsellor highlighted the Protection of Women against Domestic Violence Act of 2005 and the Child Labour Act, 1986, and said that these acts were enacted to provide protection for women and children against different types of domestic violence. She also enlightened the gathering with various legal rights of women.
Afen Phom from DHEW, briefed the gathering on various women-centric schemes provided under DHEW, Longleng.
The officer in charge (women), Vikobinou, delivered the welcome address and briefed the gathering on crime against women and protection of children from sexual offences (POCSO) cases.
She also acknowledged the DHEW Longleng and Sakhi-One Stop Centre for disseminating information and making women and children aware of the schemes in Longleng.
The programme was chaired by DEO (PMMVY) N Sangla Phom.
