DIMAPUR — The Kohima unit of Indian Association of Physiotherapist (IAP) on Saturday observed World Physiotherapy Day 2024 at Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) on the theme “Low-back pain and the role of physiotherapy in its management and prevention.”

To commemorate the day, the IAP Kohima unit organised a free physiotherapy consultation and awareness camp, focusing on the issue of low-back pain. The association emphasised that low-back pain is the leading cause of disability worldwide and can affect people of all ages, stated an update from the association.

The association also emphasised on the crucial role physiotherapists play in providing expert guidance for managing and preventing low-back pain, thereby enhancing overall health and well-being.

It highlighted that physiotherapy has gained recognition as an effective treatment method, which can significantly reduce disability and patient dependency over the years. It, however, stated that there is still a need for greater integration of physiotherapy within the multidisciplinary healthcare system.

“Physiotherapy is a comprehensive speciality that addresses a wide range of disciplines including musculoskeletal, cardiothoracic, sports, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, neurology, geriatrics, and more,” the unit stated.

It, therefore, urged the patients to seek treatment from qualified medical professionals rather than relying on untrained practitioners.

Dr. R Belho, head of Physiotherapy at NHAK, delivered the vote of thanks, wherein she expressed gratitude to the medical superintendent of NHAK for facilitating to organise the free health camp. She further encouraged her colleagues to continue their dedicated service to the community.
