James Cameron’s ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ is now the highest-grossing Hollywood film in India. As per Bollywood Hungama, it has minted INR 370 crore to date at the Indian box office.

The highly anticipated sequel to 2009’s blockbuster, Avatar, surpassed the lifetime collection of ‘Avengers End Game’ which had raked in INR 367 crore in India. On Sunday, Cameron’s flick beat the Russo brothers’ film record at the Indian box office.

Avatar 2 was released on December 2 in India and minted INR 40 crore (which most of the A-list Bollywood actors’ films have struggled to collect) on its opening day. Following a highly positive response from Indian viewers, it raked in INR 127 crore in its first weekend.

The movie earned INR 57.12 crore in its second weekend at the Indian box office and INR 39.06 crore in its third weekend. The movie went on to earn INR 15.68 crore and INR 6.31 crore, respectively, in the following two weekends.

Pathaan to disrupt Avatar 2’s amazing run

Trade trackers say that the movie had the chance of touching the INR 400 crore mark, however, the release of ‘Pathaan’ will significantly impact the chances of the Hollywood movie reaching those numbers. Shah Rukh Khan’s film is getting all higher priced IMAX and 4DX screens which will impact sales of ‘Avatar 2’ in theatres.

James Cameron’s flick is now predicted to cross INR 375 crore mark and is on course to possibly beat the record of Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’ (INR 387.38 crore).

On the other hand, Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Pathaan’, which has Deepika Padukone as the female lead, is set for a solid opening at the Indian box office. Over 4.19 lakh tickets have been already sold as per data provided by leading trade analyst, Taran Adarsh.

The early trends indicate that the movie will collect around INR 35 crore to INR 40 crore on its opening day in India.
