As a part of the United Nation’s 2030 agenda for sustainable development, ATMA Zunheboto celebrated ‘World Pulses Day’ on the theme ‘Pulses for sustainable future’ at Aghunato on February 10.
“This celebration provided an opportunity to raise awareness about pulses among the farming communities. Importance and multiple benefits of pulses were discussed,” informed project director, ATMA Zunheboto, in an update.
Pulses contribute to increasing the resilience of farming systems as they have a low water footprint and can better tolerate drought and climate-related disasters compared with other food crops, making them an essential tool to adapt and mitigate climate change, it stated.
“It thus provides more efficient and sustainable agrifood system for better nutrition, environment and a better life. To mark this important day, variety of pulses were distributed among the farmers present during the awareness program,” it added.
