ATMA holds training on mushroom production techniques

Dimapur, Feb. 21 (EMN): Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA),Mokokchung conducted a six-day skill training of rural youth (STRY) programme at Mangkolemba town, Mokokchung district on mushroom production techniques from Feb.14 to the 19th.

It was held in association with State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (Sameti),Medziphema and Manage, Hyderabad.

The training programme started with an inaugural programme chaired byLimawapangla Longkumer, BTM, Mangkolemba Block. Invocation was pronounced by Apila followed by a warm welcome by Alemkaba, farmer friend, Mangkolemba block, an update stated. 

Sentinaro Longchar, Deputy Project Director, ATMA, Mokokchung highlighted the aims and objectives of skill training of rural youth, which include imparting skill-based training to the rural youths which will help them generate income from farming activities.

The inaugural programme concluded with a vote of thanks from Rongsenrenla Longkumer, ATM, Mangkolemba block.

The resource persons for the training were Imsuyatet and Nungshilila, area co-ordinator, NSRLM, Mangkolemba block, Mokokchung and ATMA staff from Mokokchung.

Resource persons informed the rural youths on the scope and importance of mushroom technology, types of edible mushroom, nutritional value, cultivation techniques of paddy straw oyster mushroom and sawdust oyster mushroom, cost of cultivation and marketing of paddy straw and sawdust oyster mushroom cultivation.

Insect pest and disease management and post-harvest management techniques were also covered. Step-by-step procedure of oyster mushroom production like sterilisation method, spawn inoculation, spawn run, incubation in oyster mushroom using paddy straw and saw dust as substrates were demonstrated.

The training programme concluded with feedback from the participants. Certificates were distributed to all the participants. Altogether 16 unemployed youths from Mangkolemba and Atuphumi village attended the skill training programme. Mushroom spawn and polybags were also distributed to all the participants, it added.
