ATMA functionaries trained in fish farming practices

Dimapur, Sep. 21 (EMN): State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) organised three day training programme on fish farming practices in Nagaland for ATMA functionaries at SAMETI, Medziphema from Sep. 19 to 21st.
The programme focussed on imparting technical knowledge and skills to the participants through theoretical and practical sessions.
Resource persons for the training programme were Fishery Inspector Shamyung Ongh and Fishery Demonstrator Adezinou Dolie, both from Department of Fisheries, Dimapur.
The training course covered theoretical and practical sessions on introduction; importance and scope of fish farming in Nagaland, design and construction of fish farm, pond management, integrated farming system, composite fish culture, fish diseases; their control and treatment and strategies for development of fishery sector in Nagaland.
During the practical session and field visit to a fishery farm in Medziphema, trainees did a hand on practice on checking pH of pond water, liming of ponds, counting of planktons, checking turbidity of pond water and different feeding techniques.
Director SAMETI Dr. I Amenia in her valedictory address congratulated the trainees on the successful completion of the training. She highlighted about the scope and benefits of fishery in bringing about the socio-economic development in the society and also an emerging sector for revenue and employment generation in the state. she further encouraged the participants go back to their respective districts with this new perspective and work towards doubling the income of Naga farmers making it at par with the fellow farmers at national level keeping in mind the Government of India’s policy of vision 2025.
Remark of three day training was presented by Ongh. The concluded with distribution of certificates and training handouts to the trainees by in-charge Bio-control lab, Dr. Beremjungla Medziphema.
