[dropcap]A[/dropcap] demonstration programme on “value addition in vegetables” and “Mushroom cultivation” was organised by Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) and Land Resources Department (LRD) of Dhansiripar block, Dimapur on March 11 at Bade village with an objective to develop new skills and encourage the women SHGs towards income generation as well as to increase the revenue of the produce.The programme started with a key note address by Ronchamo, AO & BTT convenor, Dhansiripar block. “Value addition in vegetables” was demonstrated by Sentinaro Longchar, BTM, Dhansiripar Block to impart knowledge to the participants in preserving vegetables to avoid wastage and spoilage which can be preserved throughout the year while maintaining nutritional value.
The resource person demonstrated and explained in detail the method of preparation of green chilli pickle, mix vegetable pickle, radish pickle and preparation of tomato sauce followed by ingredients required, types of packing, bottling methods and storage of the product. She further advised the women participants to practice them as its preparation is very simple and products can be easily sold which will help them gain additional income and thereby ensure greater economic security for their family and also for the group.
“Preparation of King chilli pickle” was demonstrated by Chumyani, AFA where she demonstrated and gave detailed information on ingredients required and step-by-step procedure for preparation of king chilli pickle.
Basing on the topic of “Mushroom Cultivation” resource person Chumyani, AFA demonstrated to the satisfaction of the participants in minute details, the steps involved in culturing mushroom. She explained the importance of mushroom cultivation, its advantages and consumption benefits as it provides a rich addition to the diet in the form of proteins, carbohydrates, valuable minerals and vitamins. She also encouraged both young and old to take up this venture as this process is easy and it not only generates and accelerates earning but also plays a major role in the employment generation especially for women folks.
A total of 35 participants from different villages of Dhansiripar block attended the demonstration programme. The programme ended with positive response from the participants.
