ATMA conducts FSG training

ATMA Dimapur, Dhansiripar block, had conducted a farmers training and demonstration programme to farm women’s Food Security Group (FIG) at Dhansiripar town on June 9.
In a keynote address, Ronchamo Kikon, AO & BTT Convenor, advised and encouraged the newly formed farm women’s security group – Evan Self Help Group – to take up the training as an opportunity and to be sincere in their activities, saying agriculture has a very high prospect of profit to uplift their economy. Miss. Sentinaro Longchar, Block Technology Manager (BTM) and resource person, spoke on the topic “Cultivation of banana tissue culture.” As an explanatory note, she highlighted the advantages of tissue culture banana cultivation over conventional suckers and also demonstrated how to handle tissue culture plantlets while transplanting in the main field. The resource person explained in detail about spacing, pit size and method of planting.
She also explained the importance of manuring, timely irrigation, bunch covering with polythene, providing bamboo support when fruiting, right time of harvesting and to practice de-suckering to increase the production and quality of banana.
The topic on “Plant protection measures of banana” was delivered by Miss. Meciesunu Sakhrie, Assistant Technology Manager (ATM), Dhansiripar Block. She explained in detail about the pest and diseases of banana, their characteristic symptoms and their management practices. She further the farmers for selection of disease free vigorous suckers and to adopt clean sanitation and crop rotation as a preventive strategy.
Altogether 30 farmers attended the programme. Banana tissue culture plantlets of Grand Naine variety and ginger rhizome were distributed to the participants.
