DIMAPUR — The Angami Students’ Union on Tuesday inspected various shops within a 100-metre radius of educational institutions around Kohima and found that many were selling tobacco products.
In a press release, it stated that sections 4 and 6 (b) of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce) Act (COTPA) 2003 prohibit smoking in public places and the sale of tobacco products within 100 metres of any educational institution.
Therefore, the union appealed to all citizens of Kohima to adhere to the act and refrain from selling the banned products within the specified parameters.
Furthermore, the Angami Students’ Union urged the district administration to take appropriate action against the defaulting shops and ensure proper safety for the student community.
