KOHIMA — The Angami morung-cum-mini conference and library of the Angami Students’ Union (ASU) at Old Ministers’ Hill in Kohima was officially inaugurated by the president of Angami Public Organisation (APO), Razouvotuo Chatsu, on Wednesday.

Formally inaugurating the new facilities, Chatsu has termed it as a matter of pride for the Angamis. Describing ASU as a ‘highly regarded students office in our society,’ he said the office of the union has stood the test of time and accomplished much for the people, be it socio-cultural or education.

Asserting that ASU has been the voice that represents the aspirations and visions of the students and youths in their society, Chatsu said the union has also honed talents and quality leadership, who are now leading in the uplift of the society in different fields and professions.

Emphasising that modern amenities and facilities should be upgraded with changing times, he expressed happiness to see that ASU building has also upgraded its infrastructural facilities.

“The Morung house represents the preservation of our heritage, it can be used as a sort of museum to collect and store any kind of data and artifacts associated with our cultural and traditional practices,” Chatsu said adding, “The library is also one facility that students, scholars, and the public can directly avail.”

“With the completion of the conference hall, ASU office will now be the nerve centre of students’ welfare activism as many will want to utilise the facility,” he added.

Congratulating the incumbent ASU officials for envisioning and fulfilling the projects, he said, “These facilities are your gifts to our society, your good deeds define your capable leadership, and I thank you for all for it.”

He also reminded the need to remember the pioneers and leaders of yesterday on such a momentous occasion as they were the ones who have laid the foundations of the progress achieved.

Meanwhile, the ASU president, Bisevi Nakhro, has acknowledged the senior leaders for their vision and positive guidance while choosing a conducive plot before completing the necessary ground works of the facilities.

Thanking the departments of Agriculture and Art and Culture, well-wishes and all those concerned who have contributed finally and materially towards the projects, he expressed hope that the marketing shed at the ground floor of library building would generate income for the union.

The ASU vice president, Kevilelhou Zumu, recalled how the construction of the facilities were conceptualised to be a “house of hope and a learning centre to promote and preserving our culture and traditions” during the term of Vizokho Zashumo, former president of ASU.

During the event, Seyiekru Cultural Troupe from Rüsoma presented a folk song, while Rev. Zakiebeinyü Peseyie, pastor of Jotsoma Baptist Church, invoked God’s blessings. The programme was chaired by Azha Mezhü, ASU art and cultural secretary.
