Dimapur, Aug. 24 (EMN):
After an emergency meeting on August 23, the Dimapur unit of Nagaland In-service Doctors Association (Nida) along with its parent body president and vice president filed a first information report (FIR) on behalf of Dr. Atoka Wotsa, who was assaulted on the night of August 21 by IRB personnel in Dimapur.

Representatives of Nida, Dimapur unit informed Eastern Mirror that following the lapse of the 24-hour deadline for immediate suspension and termination of the IRB personnel involved in the incident, the district unit of doctors’ association had initially decided to go for an immediate shutdown of all medical services.

However, at the request of Nida president, the proposed shutdown was deferred to August 25 (Tuesday) in the event of the state government ‘failing to take action’ by August 24 midnight.

The member further informed that the Dimapur unit has handed over the case to its parent body  to pursue a ‘logical conclusion to the case, urgently’.

At the time of this report being filed, the president of Nida, Dr. Ritu Thur, told this newspaper that a meeting of the association has been convened to decide the next step.

It may be mentioned that the state government, on August 23, had formed a 3-member inquiry committee to probe the incident—with the directive to submit its report within seven days from the day it was formed.
