Assam team wins volleyball tournament in Tizit

The winners of the 4th edition of the Day/Night Volleyball Tournament with dignitaries in Tizit on November 16.

DIMAPUR — AS-33 from Assam emerged as the champions of the 4th edition of the Day/Night Volleyball Tournament, held on the motto ‘One life, one chance, avoid drugs,’ on November 16 at the GMS School ground, Lapa Lampong, Tizit.

In the final, the team from Assam outclassed the defending champions, Prime Spikers, in three straight sets to claim the championship title, according to an update.

The three-day tournament was organised by Naoshelim Lapa Lampong with the aim of raising awareness about staying away from drugs and substance abuse.

The opening ceremony was attended by Raju Thapa, president of the Mon District Volleyball Association, and the final match was attended by Nokjak Ranger of the Namsa Range and Ravindra, Major of the 27 Assam Rifles, Tizit, Mon.

A total of seven teams participated in the tournament. The AS-33 team received a cash prize of INR 50,000, while the runners-up, Prime Spikers, were awarded INR 25,000.

The individual awards for the best setter went to Shahil Gogoi (AS-33) and the best spiker to Mridu Gogoi (Prime Spikers).

Naoshelim, the organiser, expressed gratitude to Paiwang Konyak, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, and Wango, deputy director of Social Welfare, for sponsoring the prize money.

It was mentioned that Naoshelim is a non-profit voluntary group dedicated to charitable purposes. All funds generated through its initiatives are donated to rehabilitation centres or used to help those in need.
