Assam Rifles undertakes various activities under Meri LiFE initiative
DIMAPUR —The Assam Rifles conducted various initiatives under the Meri LiFE initiative, a public outreach and mass engagement campaign, across the state.
According to a press release, it held a walkathon to raise awareness at Kashiram village, Dimapur, as part of the Meri LiFE amplification to create awareness about the importance of environmental preservation and community participation on May 19.
Four officers, three junior commissioned officers (JCOs), 38 other ranks (ORs), and 45 children attended the event. The walkathon route passed through various villages, raising awareness about the importance of preserving and protecting the environment.
Assam Rifles organised a plantation of saplings at various locations, including Charlie Hill, IG Stadium, and Chakbama, for a greener and safer environment under the Meri LiFE campaign on Monday in Kohima.
It said that the event was a coordinated and synchronised effort of Assam Rifles and local people, wherein a total of 100 civilians and 100 troops planted a total of 500 saplings.
On Monday, Assam Rifles organised a volleyball match among the youth of Tuli as part of the Meri LiFE campaign. The event commenced with a discourse on the Meri Life initiative and the occasion was attended by 30 people.
Constructs basketball court, community hall
Assam Rifles constructed a basketball court at Molvom village, Chümoukedima district, under Operation Sadbhavana.
The basketball court, a one-of-a-kind facility in the area, will help Molvom and neighbouring villages in community building, teamwork and fostering healthy lifestyles, a defence release stated.
“It will serve as a hub for people of all ages to come together, stay active and enjoy the spirit of the game,” the release stated.
The court, which was handed over to the local populace on May 16 during a programme, was attended by villagers and also witnessed a friendly basketball match between the Molvom and Chümoukedima youth basketball teams.
Also, Assam Rifles constructed a community hall with toilets and bathing blocks at Nyasa village, Mon district, under Operation Sadhbhavna.
The newly constructed community hall will be used as a central hall for organising meetings at the village level and other central functions for locals. It was handed over to the village by the Mon Battalion of Assam Rifles on May 19.
The inauguration ceremony of the community hall witnessed a gathering of 150 people.
Organises training programme, dental camp
Assam Rifles initiated a programme to provide training to youth in Zunheboto in preparation for the forthcoming Railway Protection Force (RPF) recruitment examination and in collaboration with the Green Club, an NGO in Zunheboto, a 15-week coaching programme for all aspiring candidates was inaugurated.
To assist aspirants, a recruitment help desk for aspirant registration has been established by the Assam Rifles and awareness about the competitive exam is being disseminated.
In Kejok village, a dental camp and a medical camp were held, providing essential healthcare services and addressing the medical and dental needs of the residents. Additionally, a series of engaging and educational games for children were organised under the initiative.
It said that the dental and medical camps provided much-needed access to healthcare, ensuring that residents received timely medical attention and preventive care.
