Assam Rifles conducts wreath-laying ceremonies

DIMAPUR — The Assam Rifles conducted a wreath-laying ceremony at Veer Smriti, Mokokchung, to pay homage to seven bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty on January 24, 1964, when the unit was deployed in Wokha.

According to an update, the event was attended by four officers, 28 junior commissioned officers (JCOs), and 255 other ranks (ORs) of the Assam Rifles. During the event, the attendees received a briefing on how the fallen hero displayed conspicuous gallantry, indomitable resolve, grit, determination, and selflessness.

A wreath-laying ceremony was also held at the Unit War Memorial in Kohima on the same day to remember and honour the fallen heroes, Rifleman (general duty) Khampai Wangsu, Sena Medal, and Rifleman (general duty) L Ginlaiven Ngaihte, who made the supreme sacrifice on January 22, 2017, in an ambush by militants in Changlang district, Arunachal Pradesh.

A total of 8 officers, 20 JCOs, and 210 ORs paid tribute to the gallant soldiers. On the occasion, the commandant spoke to the families of the bravehearts and conveyed gratitude.

Security meeting in Aboi

Meanwhile, on Monday, the Assam Rifles conducted a security meeting-cum-awareness session with the village GBs and village council members of Aboi and surrounding villages in Aboi, Mon.

The meeting was attended by GBs, village council chairmen, and village guards from nearby villages, according to the update.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss security-related issues in anticipation of the forthcoming Republic Day. During the session, leaders conveyed New Year wishes and pledged to cooperate with the Assam Rifles.
