Dimapur, June 4 (EMN): In an effort to empower women and make them self-reliant through community-based agro-forestry project, the Assam Rifles of Ghaspani (7AR) under the aegis of IGAR (North) organised a three-day workshop in collaboration with The Banana Co Dimapur, from May 31 to June 2 at Diphupar A in Dimapur.
As many as 32 women, who took part in the workshop, were trained on various techniques of extracting fibre fabric from banana plants and making decorative items and artefacts out of it, according to an update from Lt Col CH Jacob.
The trainees were encouraged to utilise their unique skill and craftsmanship towards uplifting the community and help achieve self-reliance. The AR representative also assured them of all possible assistance in promoting their self-reliant aspirations, it was informed.
It added that the participants expressed their gratitude to the organisers and the entrepreneur from The Banana Co Dimapur during the felicitation-cum-valedictory programme on Thursday.
In separate press releases, the Dimapur Battalion of AR informed that it organised a ‘Yogathon’, a grand yoga session for students of Livingstone School and St. Joseph Global School at DDSC Stadium, Dimapur on June 1.
In Peren district, Jalukie Battalion of AR organised a medical camp and COVID awareness campaign at Beisumpuilwa village, Peren district on June 1, as well as essay writing and painting competition on the theme ‘Tobacco: A threat to our environment’ at Jalukie town on June 2.
The battalion also organised a combined veterinary and medical camp at Mpai Namchi village, Peren district, on June 1, it was informed. A wellness camp comprising of a yoga demonstration session and free medical camp was also held at Jalukie-B village, Peren on June 3.
Kohima Battalion of AR under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) celebrated World Bicycle Day with participants of the state-level World Bicycle Day rally organised at PHQ Junction to Old MLA Junction, Kohima town, Nagaland on June 3.
The cycling event was organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Nagaland in collaboration with Smart City, Kohima. The participants interacted and were felicitated by the battalion.
Phek Battalion of AR under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) organised a yoga session and lecture on the benefits of yoga for the villagers of Kizare and New Thewati village, Phek district on June 3.
Meanwhile, Kiphire Battalion organised a medical camp at Mutinkhong village, Kiphire district on June 2. A total of 46 villagers attended the programme. The battalion also held a meeting with GBs, village council members and village guards of four villages under Mimi circle on June 3.
The meeting focussed on prevailing security situation in the area of IMB and motivating young boys and girls to join the security forces through SSC recruitment. Aspects to develop mutual cooperation between AR and the local population were also discussed.
