Assam Rifles conducts plantation drives, medical camps

DIMAPUR — Assam Rifles organized a tree plantation drive at the IGAR (North) Headquarters in Kohima on July 20.

The initiative was led by Major General Manish Kumar, SM, alongside sector commanders, with the aim of raising awareness among troops about the critical importance of trees and environmental conservation, according to a press release.

It was part of Assam Rifles‘ ongoing efforts to foster ecological sustainability and contribute to a healthier environment.

The release mentioned that in 2024 alone, Assam Rifles planted approximately 3.5 lakh trees, with a goal to plant 10 lakh trees by the end of the year. Over the past four years, it has planted around 59 lakh trees in Nagaland and south Arunachal Pradesh.

In another tree plantation drive, Assam Rifles initiated a drive in Kiphire. On the first day, Assam Rifles personnel and local civilians planted 105 saplings, including a mix of local species and fruit-bearing trees sourced from the region.

Cleanliness drive

Meanwhile, Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Junior Red Cross, conducted a cleanliness drive at Mon town helipad to improve hygienic conditions and sanitation of the infrastructure to mitigate potential health risks.

The initiative witnessed participation from both Assam Rifles personnel and the youths of Mon town.

Medical camps

The Assam Rifles also conducted a medical camp on July 20th at Toshiho village, Niuland, where approximately 400 villagers availed themselves of medical checkups.

Similarly, a medical camp was held in Old Thewati village on the same day in Phek to provide healthcare services to the residents of this remote area.

The camp included awareness sessions on hygiene, nutrition, and preventive healthcare, aiming to educate the community about maintaining good health practices and saw a total of 75 residents participating, including 29 women, 34 men, and 12 children.
