Assam Rifles commemorates I-Day, holds security meeting
DIMAPUR — Assam Rifles celebrated Independence Day at Avangkhu village in Phek district on Wednesday.
According to an update, the celebration was attended by 30 students and five children from the village.
It also organised a flag hoisting ceremony in Mokokchung, conducted a painting competition in Tizit, and organised a medical camp at ITC Dan in Noklak. At the medical camp, a total of 246 villagers benefited.
Similar events were held at Chenloisho COB in Mon district, attended by 134 students, nine teachers, the gaon bura, and the village chairman of Chenloisho village. Additionally, a ‘Day with the company commander’ was organised, which saw participation from 134 children and seven teachers.
Meanwhile, on August 13, the Assam Rifles convened a security meeting at Meluri sub-division, which was attended by the chairman of Pochury HoHo, along with 30 village council chairmen and gaon buras.
Key issues discussed during the meeting included security challenges within the Area of Responsibility (AOR), the movement of illegal persons across the border, and rising concerns regarding the smuggling of contraband items.
The commanding officer emphasised the importance of community involvement in maintaining security and urged local leaders to collaborate closely with the Assam Rifles to combat these threats.
