As monsoon arrives, Assam Rifles provides an umbrella of relief

Dimapur, June 21 (EMN): In its endeavour to reach out to the needy people and with the onset of monsoon season, Assam Rifles under HQ IGAR (North) organised an umbrella distribution drive at Phek, Meluri, New Thewati, Avangkhu and Ziphu villages.

The troops also distributed umbrellas to farmers, daily wage earners, physically challenged individuals, students, frontline workers including para-medical staff, elder people in Pfutsero town, Chizami, Chakhabama, Chiepobozou, Ziezou, Kiphire, Pungro, Mimi, Khongka, and Hakkumote.

Meanwhile, at Kohima, the Assam Rifles donated umbrellas to differently-able children at Tabitha Enabling Society, migrant workers, widows, elderly, destitute and needy persons, informed an update.

In Wokha district, the same was distributed to children of Morning Star Children Home, workers, widows, destitute persons, Lotha Eloe Hoho, Rengma Hoho and elderly people of Tseminyu town.

Ghaspani battalion also distributed umbrellas to farmers and highway workers at Kukidolong and on NH- 29.

Also, keeping the need for recreation among school children and to compliment the lack of sporting infrastructure in the school, Zunheboto battalion distributed sports items to Government Primary School, New Sangsamong village, Tuensang on June 19.

In a separate event, the Phek battalion assisted the civil administration in clearing landslide on Lephori-Kanjang road on June 19.

Due to heavy rains, various locations between Lephori and Kanjang village were blocked by landslide, it stated.

The road being the only medium for vehicular movement was cleared to ensure continuity and hassle-free movement.

The battalion also aided a critical patient of Phek town by donating blood. The individual was suffering from gastric bleeding and hads been undergoing treatment at the District Hospital Phek.
