Dimapur, Sep. 5 (EMN): Aries Rifle and Pistol Shooting Academy has been selected by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) as a Khelo India Centre under the nation’s Khelo India scheme.

According to an update, the centre was approved by the department of Youth Resources and Sports, on April 5. However, the announcement was delayed due to the pandemic situation which prompted the academy to be shut for the last few months, it said.

“Aries Rifle and Pistol Shooting Academy started with a 4-lane indoor shooting range in 2010 at NST Colony Dimapur. In spite of its humble beginnings the academy has been able to promote young shooters to participate in various competitions outside the state with promising results over the years,” read the statement.

The academy also organises various shooting competitions within the state.

It informed that the founder Merang Jamir has received the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) B- Judge Certificate in 2016. Only two years later, he was again awarded the D-Course Coach Certificate in 2018.

The academy strictly follows the modern shooting sport rules as prescribed by the International Shooting sport Federation (ISSF). The shooting ranges of the academy are also modelled on the lines of international standards with some lanes having ISSF approved electronic scoring target systems, SIUS HS10 Hybridscore. The academy has so far constructed a full-fledged 10m, 25m and 50m shooting ranges at Bamunphukuri-1, Dimapur, where the 4th North East Zone Shooting Championship 2016 was conducted under the aegis of the National Rifle Association of India, it added.
