Imphal, Sep. 23 (EMN): The new Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) Major General KP Singh on Sunday asked the participants of a ten-day ‘organic farming exposure trip’ to Sikkim’s capital Gangtok to come back with more knowledge about organic farming, so that they can take up the work in consultation with the concerned department in the state to produce organic products.
IG Assam Rifles was speaking to a group of youth who are to go for an exposure trip at the Assam Rifles headquarters here at Mantripukhi near Imphal in presence of Assam Rifles officials on Sep. 23.

He also interacted with the youths which include 13 male and seven females about the farming patterns in their cultivable lands.
He appealed to the youths of the region to prepare for a major recruitment in the Assam Rifles for a large number of vacancies, asking the interested individuals to visit concerned Assam Rifles units for training if required in connection with a major recruitment rally which is expected to be held between October and November this year.

Sharing their feeling and expectations from the exposure trip, some of the participants said they wanted to learn more on new ideas to convert their waste land into cultivable lands for improvement of their economy in the villages.

Expressing the need to have proper marketing system and road connectivity for the improvement of farming activities in their areas, they also appealed to the concerned authority to provide alternative means of livelihood for those farmers who involved in other illegal plantation of poppy etc for a better society.

Speaking to this reporter, an official of the Assam Rifles said that the main objective of the exposure tour is to provide latest trends of organic farming so that it can be replicated in their areas while addressing the livelihood issues besides producing healthy vegetable, crops and other staple foods.
