AR averts major fire in Longwa village

Mon battalion of the Assam Rifles averted a major fire incident in Longwa village under Mon district, which broke out in the house of a women pastor on Saturday at 7 am and was spreading rapidly.

A defence release stated that the Longwa post of Assam Rifles reacted promptly and dosed off the fire and thereby prevented it from spreading to other houses. It stated that the main house made of bamboo and toko patta (leaves) was severely damaged. It stated that nearby houses were saved due to timely intervention by the Assam Rifles personnel.

Meanwhile, it stated that the villagers have expressed gratitude towards Assam Rifles for the prompt help in dousing the fire.

It mentioned that the fire incident was significant as the Nagaland Governor was scheduled to visit Longwa on January 21.

In another incident, personnel from the Mon battalion of the Assam Rifles saved the life of one T Honnyei Konyak (40) of Totak Chingha village by donating B+ blood, who sustained injuries after he accidentally fell from a tree.

Taking cognisance of the seriousness of the situation, Assam Rifles responded quickly and arranged volunteers from the battalion. 

It stated that the timely blood donation helped the victim survive despite grave injuries. It added that the effort by Assam Rifles was appreciated by the District Hospital staff.
