Dimapur, Dec. 27 (EMN): Mokokchung battalion of the Assam Rifles averted a major fire incident in Aboi town under Mon district on December 27.

A defence release stated that a fire broke out in Hunyan Ward of Aboi town at around 1:20 pm due to electric short circuit and the fire soon spread to the house built with wood and tin sheets.

On learning about the fire outbreak, troops of Assam Rifles at Aboi Company Operating Base immediately rushed towards the place of incident with fire fighting equipments, water bowser and medicines. It added that the relief column successfully evacuated men and materials from the site and managed to douse the fire with the help of fire extinguishers and water bowser.

While no human casualty was reported, it stated that one house has been completely burnt down in the incident.

Meanwhile, keeping the rich traditions of the men in uniform, the 1st (Lushai Hills) battalion of the Assam Rifles organised a wreath laying ceremony at Kohima garrison on December 27.

The wreath laying ceremony was organised in remembrance of a brave heart Late Rifleman Khim Bahadur, who laid down his life fighting the insurgent in Jiribam, Manipur, on December 27, 1997. Assam Rifles personnel offered floral tribute and laid wreath in paying homage to Rifleman Khim Bahadur.

In yet another programme, Kohima battalion of the Assam Rifles felicitated Powuyi Swuro, former DB area administrator of the Indian National Army, on his 104th birth anniversary in Ruzazho village on December 24. The Assam Rifles has wished him best of health and happiness in the presence of Ruzazho village council chairman.

It stated that Captain Ankur from Chakabama company along with his team came to Ruzazho village for the programme on behalf of the Kohima battalion. Meanwhile, Powuyi has thanked the Assam Rifles for their noble gesture and blessed them.
