The All Party Hill Leaders Conference (APHLC) celebrated its 5th foundation day at Dongkamukam in West Karbi Anglong on Saturday.

Party workers from both Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong district participated in the foundation day celebration.

While speaking to media persons after the celebration, the president, APHLC, JI Kathar said that the APHLC has been demanding an autonomous state since 1969. At that time there was a demand for a hill state.

Kathar said there was division in the Karbi community on the basis of religious and Roman script. The demand for English mediums has to be taken up, he said.

The APHLC president said that ‘employment opportunities were denied to the educated youths of the district. More than 1 lakh children were not getting proper education. About 14000 tribal children (hill tribes) are still working as slaves living in non-tribal houses’.

‘The leaders in power are fooling the people in the name of development. The appointments of school teachers have not been given to hill tribes,’ Kathar alleged.

The APHLC president further claimed that the saffron party together with the RSS and Bongo Sena were destroying the very spirit of Sixth Schedule.

General Secretary of Rising Peoples Party, Nagaland, Ame Chinghu also attended the programme and advocate Raju Deori and other leaders also participated in the celebration.
