Angami Students’ Union Shillong celebrates 56th Freshers’ Day meet
DIMAPUR — The Angami Students’ Union Shillong (ASUS) celebrated its 56th Freshers’ Day meet at Naga Community Hall, Nongrim Hill, Shillong on September 14.
Mhasimhalie Matthew Yhome, president of the Kohima District Football Association and vice president of Kohima Village Youth Organisation, was the chief guest of the event, an update stated.
In his address, Yhome shared his inspiring life story, sharing tales of fun and challenging experiences that shaped him into the leader he is today.
“With his infectious enthusiasm and charismatic presence, he motivated the students to strive for excellence and bring laurels to the Naga society,” it stated.
He also emphasised the importance of leading a disciplined life, cautioning against the pitfalls of alcoholism and tobacco. He further encouraged the students to be ideal ambassadors of the Angami community and Nagas, while underscoring the significance of maintaining good relationship with the local people.
The highlight of the event was the crowning of Medozhazo Tachü and Vimenuo Sachii as ASUS Mr. and Miss Freshers 2024.
This year, the union also introduced an exciting new change for the Freshers’ meet by holding an online voting to select Mr. and Miss Popular. Vimenuo Sachii and Thejavisie Suohumvu were declared Mr and Miss. Popular, respectively.

Earlier, the programme commenced with a welcome address by Ruokuohuzo Khezhie, president of ASUS and the comperes were Mhaleneinuo Solo and Thinosalie Keyho.
Kethokhrieno Solo delivered the vote of thanks.
