Dimapur, May 19 (EMN): In an effort to promote hygiene in the society especially in Kohima town, the Angami Students’ Union (ASU) has initiated a pilot project under the banner ‘Angami Students’ Union Sanitation Ambassadors.’ The union has launched the project with the objective to reach out and create awareness to preserve and protect the environment.
In order to translate its mission to reality, ASU has selected students from Class VI and VII from various schools to be ambassadors of sanitation, who would be given badges with the inscription “ASU Sanitation Ambassador.” The members would propagate the mission on hygiene and sanitation regardless of the places they were stationed. The ambassadors were expected to set examples by cleaning their surroundings and also encourage others on the importance of maintaining clean environment.
In a press release, ASU president Visako Rino stated that the union has launched the mission with the objective to create awareness among the public bearing in mind the benefit of sanitation.
ASU had previously collaborated with the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) on a project to free Kohima of dog menace. The union had also introduced and launched ‘Car Bin’ project with the ANTA Kohima wherein car bins were donated to the taxis. The union had appealed to all the vehicle owners to maintain ‘Car Bins’ in their vehicles.
ASU aims at promoting a sense of belongingness that every individual is responsible for keeping a clean environment. It also appealed to every citizen to join hand and work towards a cleaner and better society.
Meanwhile, the union has acknowledged all those who have helped them financially and physically in launching the pilot project. It has particularly thanked the urban development department, department of forest, KD Vizo and Husie Lhousa.
