DIMAPUR — The NSCN-K, led by Ang Mai, elected senior members Kughalu Mulatonu as general secretary and Nyeiton as vice-chairman during an emergency meeting at CHQ, Oking, on Wednesday.

According to a press statement, the election and subsequent oath-taking ceremony took place at the organisation’s council headquarters.

Mulatonu, 55, from Phisami village, Kiphire, and Nyeiton Konyak, 54, from Momkho village, Lahe township, were elected unanimously by the joint council of kilonsers, tatar hoho, and military wing commanders, in strict adherence to the Yehzabo of the NSCN.

The oath of office was administered by President, Major General (retired), Ang Mai, in a ceremony attended by a broad assembly of dignitaries, including the council of kilonsers, military wing commanders, well-wishers, and KBBB (Myanmar).

“The collective leadership is expected to bring renewed vigour and strategic direction to the ongoing efforts to achieve its goal,” read the statement.

It said that the organisation aims to intensify its diplomatic efforts, strengthen alliances with sympathetic entities, and further articulate the political, cultural, and social justifications for Nagas’ self-determination.

Further, it mentioned that the NSCN’s strategy involves not only advocating for the struggle but also fostering concretisation among the various Naga groups.

“This unity is pivotal as the NSCN-K seeks to consolidate its position both domestically and internationally, ensuring that the voice of the Nagas is not only heard but is influential in shaping its own future,” it said, adding that with these renewed efforts, the leadership transition marks a significant phase in the NSCN’s journey towards achieving its long-standing objectives.
