DIMAPUR — The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) Collegiate Meet 2024 which began on Oct. 29 entered the fourth day with an unfolding of some invigorating events including the first ever Naga wrestling competition in an ANCSU meet.

According to an update, on Oct. 31 evening, which coincided with the Halloween Day and Diwali celebrations, the much anticipated ANCSU beat contest was held with seven colleges from across Nagaland vying for the best band title.

The beat contest attended by Neibalie Rio, special officer to the Chief Minister of Nagaland. The panel of judges included Clement Imsong, vocalist of Lords of Rock band; Yangkum Jinger, current drummer of Incipit band; Mankon Konyak, Lead Guitarist of the band Exi-Chicken Head, and renowned bassist, Jungshi Aier.

During the battle of the bands, the colleges belted out Bon Jovi’s popular number ‘You give love a bad name’ along with a number of their own choice. After a very exciting and mind boggling performance by all the bands, the title of the best band was awarded to the energetic band from Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung while the runners-up title was clinched by the band from Sazolie College, Kohima who also won the best vocals and best drummer titles.

Patkai Christian College, Chümoukedima won the best bass guitarist and best keyboardist titles while the titles for the best lead guitarist and the best rhythm guitarist went to Fazl Ali College and Livingstone Foundation International College, Dimapur, respectively. The event concluded with the summing up performance by DJ Rhon which kept the crowd asking for more.

The ANCSU beat contest is a biennial event and is conducted in order to encourage and promote the young talents from various colleges of Nagaland.

On Friday, the culmination of the Knowledge Hub event of the collegiate meet was held with Johnny Ruangmei, Joint CEO of the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority, Government of Nagaland, as the special guest.

A talk on HIV/AIDS awareness was also delivered by Dr. Hotoka Hesso, SMO, Art Plus Centre, District Hospital Dimapur. Imtisangla, COFU, IDAN also spoke on the various facets of financial literacy. Other highlights of the programme included the result of the hackathon and prize distribution by Startup Nagaland and special song by students of Immanuel College, Dimapur.
