Dimapur, Dec. 9 (EMN): The Konyak Union (KU) has demanded Union Home Minister Amit Shah to withdraw the statement he made in the Parliament about the Oting killing incident.

The Home minister had said that a team of 21 para-commandos of Indian Army ambushed a vehicle suspected of carrying insurgents on December 4 evening after it tried to flee when signalled to stop, killing six out of eight persons, but it turned out to be a case of “mistaken identity”.

However, the people of Oting, including the survivors have denied the claim, saying that the villagers were shot without any warning.

The KU stated that Shah should rely on concrete facts and not on information spoon-fed by the Indian army.

“He should respect the sentiments and feelings of the people by withdrawing his remark, if not the cries and anger will further evaporate which the Konyaks will solely blame the Government of India,” read the statement.

Money can’t buy life

The union stated that it had never demanded compensation from the state or the central government and that money can’t replace the loss of 14 innocent Konyak youths. It warned the Centre not to play with the sentiments of the Konyaks but deliver justice before Christmas.

It also requested the SIT to expedite the case before December 25.

The union went on to blame the telecom operating agencies and officers responsible for shutting down the mobile phone service for the December 5 incident, saying that communication gap in disseminating information led to vandalising of KU Office and attack on AR Camp which led to the death of an innocent civilian.

Mourns CDS Gen Rawat’s death

The KU expressed shock over the sudden demise of CDS Gen. Bipin Rawat, his wife and 11 others in a chopper crash and conveyed condolences to their families.

“The Konyak Union along with the rest of the world mourns the death and pray to the Almighty to bring comfort and solace to all the bereaved families,” it stated.

Third day of mourning

As the 7-day mourning enters the third day, the KU requested everyone to be respectful and avoid any unwanted confrontation during the period.
