A local legislator has encouraged students to opt for ‘career-oriented’ academic courses considering that employment in the government services’ sector, of Nagaland, was now ‘saturated’.According to Member of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Neiphrezo Keditsu, the choices that the students make for their careers would decide where they end up later on.
Keditsu was addressing a felicitation program that the Chiechama Students’ Union, of Chiechama village in Kohima district, organized on Saturday to honor students who cleared the recent High School-leaving Certificate board examinations. The program was conducted in the village’s council hall.
In his address, Keditsu said that the government jobs sector in the state has become saturated. This, he said, has led to increase in unemployment. He encouraged the gathered students to opt for courses that were career-oriented. He compared the educational system in India to the American educational system; the former is syllabus-oriented, while the latter is career-oriented.
“Choose your profession wisely as this will play a decisive role in shaping your future. A wrong choice has every chances of making you fall short of your dreams and ambitions,” said Dr. Keditsu. He urged them to strive with dedication, commitment, and sacrifice in their attempts to move forward; that way they would be counted in the society.
“Hard work is the key to success. Though you may have an ambition, you may fall short of the target if you do not give the required effort,” he said. “We live in a competitive world, and there is no room for complacency.”
As for the northern Angami-II constituency, Keditsu assured to exert his best for the uplift of the people and their welfare. Further assuring to reach the grass-root, he sought the continuous support and cooperation of the people.
Earlier, exhorting the gathering, the secretary of Chiechama’s Village Development Board, Kelhousilie Sanchu, advised the students with a word about pursuing their vocations: ‘there is no short cut to success.’
“Few years’ effort will pay you richly for a bright future. So strive with determination and achieve beyond the expectation of what many of us could dream and imagine. You (students) are the pride and hope of the village,” Sanchu said.
Also, he advised the students to firstly seek God’s wisdom so that each one of them makes a good beginning in their efforts to achieving their goals.
From the area, 76 students, comprising 36 boys and 40 girls, cleared the High School Leaving Certificate board examinations for the year. The students, though Chiechama citizens, reside in various parts of Nagaland.
In other events of the day’s program, Khriebeizo Mere and Kezevinuo Sogotsu were also crowned ‘Mr Fresher’ and ‘Miss Fresher’.
