DIMAPUR — The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has called for an immediate end to the government’s “attachment policy,” which temporarily reassigns assistant and associate professors in the Higher Education department and government colleges.

In a letter written to the commissioner & secretary of Higher and Technical Education on Monday, the student union said that the policy “jeopardises the smooth functioning of the already understaffed colleges, which directly handicap the teaching learning process.”

While the 17 government colleges in the state are at a crucial juncture of fully implementing the New Education Policy 2020—a transition that demands urgent requirement of more teaching faculty—the ANCSU said that the government has introduced the policy with “least concern” about the “critical grievances” faced by students.

It appealed to the commissioner and secretary to “immediately disengage all the attached teachers and assign them to their respective posted institutions”, warning that failure to address their demands would “only invite confrontation from the student community.”

The ANCSU further demanded that the government prioritise the creation of permanent teaching positions and initiate recruitment through the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC), to ensure proper functioning of all the institutions under the department.
