All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Friday alleged that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) demanded by the BJP since 1998 was to Hindunise the ways of marriage, divorce, succession, adoption, guardianship and inheritance.

This was stated by Mahima Singh, AICC media coordinator, during a press conference at Congress Bhavan in Dimapur. She asserted that “while the BJP will swear on Uniform Civil Code for the general elections to be held in 2024, it will be doing so in deliberate ignorance of the unique identity of each of the 17 Naga tribes out of a total 705 recognised tribes.”

She alleged that a draconian law like the Uniform Civil Code is driven by the Hindu nation resolve of the BJP and the RSS directly attacking the identity of 104 million Scheduled Tribes comprising of 8.6% of the total Indian population. She added that in a border-bound state like Nagaland, draconian laws such as the Citizenship Amendment Act along with National Registrar of Citizens would compel the innocent people of Nagaland rendered homeless, whose ancestors have settled for generations.

She opined that the Congress resolve has always been to strengthen the voice of the Naga people and reaffirmed that it would remain so even in the days to come.

Meanwhile, she also informed that Khekashi Sumi from Akuluto in Zunheboto district has joined the party. She also stated that any party who allied with BJP were doomed.
