All Blacks of Kohima champions of Khelo India women’s basketball league

DIMAPUR — The All Blacks, Kohima defeated Orca 10-5 in the final to win the Khelo India Asmita Women’s League Dimapur Leg, a basketball tournament, at the JV Foundation Basket Court at Signal Angami, Dimapur, on Thursday.

Reema, who was adjudged the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament and awarded INR 2000, once again gave an impressive performance by scoring five points to help her team All Black win in the final.

In the match for third place, TMB (Kohima) narrowly beat local team Elite B 11-9, according to an update received here on Friday.

After the fifth round of the league matches, All Blacks (Kohima) was on top of the league standings, followed by TMB (Kohima), Orca (Kohima) and Elite B (Dimapur).

In the first semi-final match, All Blacks (Kohima) thrashed Elite B (Dimapur) 16-6, while Orca (Kohima) defeated TMB (Kohima) 16-12 in the second semi-final match with Kevi and Achet of Orca scoring 8 and 6 points respectively.

Champions All Blacks walked away with a cash prize of INR 15000 along with citations, while the runners-up Orca and second runners-up TMB were awarded INR 7500 and INR 2500 respectively along with certificates. All the participating teams were also given certificates.

Tiameren Amri, Technical Director of Dimapur District Basketball Association, gave away the prizes to the teams.

Yudang Ao, manager of the competition, thanked the Khelo India, Sports Authority of India, Basketball Federation of India and Nagaland Basketball Association, saying that the league will go a long way in empowering women’s basketball.

“This is the platform for girls who are passionate about basketball, to show their skills, win laurels for the country and also build their career in sports. We must support this initiative by Khelo India, SAI and BFI,” Yudang said.

The Asmita Women’s League is a programme under Khelo India to promote sports among women in India. The Dimapur leg of the 3×3 basketball tournament is part of a 50 cities programme overlooked by the Basketball Federation of India and its associate members across India.
