DIMAPUR — With an objective to create responsiveness on the rights of children through active involvement of youth among the peers and in the community at large, Child Friendly Dimapur, an initiatives of ANMA Integrated Development Association (AIDA)Don Bosco, Dimapur, in collaboration with Social Work department of St. Joseph University, Chümoukedima, organised a photography competition-cum-exhibition on May 4 at St. Joseph University on the theme “For every child.”

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Kinitoli H Yeptho, dean of academic at SJU and judge of the competition, expressed gratitude to AIDA for organising the programme to sensitise people towards violation of child rights in different forms and also appreciated Child Friendly Dimapur for working relentlessly towards making Dimapur and Chümoukedima child friendly cities, stated an update from AIDA-Don Bosco.

Mechietonu Agnes, civil society mobilisation officer of Child Friendly Dimapur, shared the concept of Child Friendly Dimapur of AIDA. She informed that Child Friendly Dimapur is in line with the United Nation Child Friendly City Initiatives.

Quoting Barack Obama, she stated that “Changes will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.” She further encouraged the youth to be an agent of change in the society by spreading and promoting awareness on child’s rights for their bright future.

Mhabemo C Yanthan (MARD), 2nd semester, spoke on Child Rights Acts like Article 21 A–right to free and compulsory elementary education for all children between the age 6-14 years, Article 24–right to be protected from any hazardous employment till the age of 14, Article 39 -right to be protected from being abused and forced by economic necessity to enter occupation to their age or strength.

He also shared on the United Nation Convention on the rights of children that protect them from economic, social, cultural, civil and political rights.

It stated that Keku Ngaubui won the first prize, while Rhuyo Kezo and Ngunying K Konyak won the second and third prizes respectively.

Report further stated that around 100 students and teaching staff from St. Joseph University attended the programme.
