Dimapur, Feb. 14 (EMN): Anma Integrated Development Association (Aida) under the SBI gram seva programme distributed mushroom spawn and bags to beneficiaries of five adopted villages namely Khriezephe, Tsithrongse, Diezephe, Urra and Bade.

An update stated that Aida had organised training on oyster mushroom cultivation earlier on December 4, 2021, and provided mushroom spawn to the first group of beneficiaries.

It mentioned that mushrooms were known as vegetables of the future and accepted as an alternative to meat and fish. It is an ideal food of tribal people that contributes essential vitamins, minerals, amino acids, proteins etc., while mitigating the risk of developing serious health conditions such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes etc., it added.

It further stated that SBI Foundation through Aida aims to assist rural youth and women folk to become self-reliant through mushroom cultivation. It added that a number of other income generating activities such as cuniculture, poultry, kitchen garden and piggery were also organised in the past. Those activities were conducted to uplift the economy of rural youth and generate employment opportunities, it said.
