Ahuna celebrated in Zunheboto, Chümoukedima
Dimapur, Nov. 14 (EMN): Deputy Chief Minister, Yanthungo Patton, reminded on the brotherhood and similarities shared by various Naga tribes in the past, which continue to the present.
The minister was speaking as special guest at the Ahuna (post-harvest festival) celebration held at Zunheboto on Monday.
On the Naga political issue, Patton conveyed that the Nagas are looking forward to the Sumis and their leaders who head major political bodies, to lead the Nagas as a whole to brighter days ahead.
He also lauded the mass marriage culture practiced by Sumis and lauded the initiators of the mass marriage.
He further said that the citizens of the district should always encourage developments in the district and appealed to the landowners especially, to work out the easiest solutions to land issues to encourage developments in the district.
Advisor, Food & Civil Supplies, LMCP and Taxes, Pukhayi Sümi, in his address said Sumis should never forget their roots and that remembrance of their culture and tradition, is the actual celebration of Ahuna.
He also stated that the Nagas should always remind themselves that they all came from one hearth and home in the past.
Presentation of cultural items, songs, and other traditional activities were the highlights of the celebration.

Meanwhile, the Highway Area Sumi Public Organisation (HASPO) celebrated Ahuna at Agri- Expo 4th Mile, Chümoukedima, on the theme ‘Sumi dolo kuqhakulu, kikimiye, kulakishi eno sukusho’ (Unity, love, peace and protection amongst Sumis)
Addressing the festive gathering, Minster of PHED, Jacob Zhimomi, who spoke on the theme, said love, unity and peace should not only prevail within the community but also shared with other communities.
The minister encouraged the gathering to set an example by building cordial relationship with one another and to correct each other.
Zhimomi also said education is an engine that broadens one’s perspectives and wisdom. “Education is the primary step towards a prosperous life and giving back to society,” he said.
He, however, said educational qualification is useless if one does not contribute to society.
The minister also highlighted about the developmental activities that were taking place and in process of completion in the district.
Sumi Kukami Hoho president, Kashito Yepthomi and vice chairman of Sumi Tsaiko Mipi, Dr. Hotokhu Chishi, also spoke on the occasion.
Highlights of the day included cultural and traditional folk dances and traditional fire making competition.
