Dimapur, August 29 (EMN): People of Ahthibung and Khelma area under Peren district have been totally cut off from the rest of the State following landslides and washing away of bridges precipitated by incessant rain in the past week.
Stating this in a press release, the Kuki Inpi Nagaland (KIN) today drawn the attention of the State government and the concerned authority to restore the road and alleviate the hardship of the people, who have been deprived of basic need following the disaster.
KIN president, L Gangte has appreciated the district administration and the Commandant of the 9th IR Battalion for clearing the landslide below Saijang village near Manglou bridge thereby providing safe passage for the people.
Unfortunately on August 28 night, the road – the lifeline of Ahthibung and Khelma area- was completely washed away by the swirling river.
It was also reported that KIN officials from Ahthibung could not visit the site due to several landslides between Chalkot and Saijang.
In the light of the above stated circumstance and in considering the plight of the people from the area, KIN has earnestly appealed to the concerned department and the State government to take necessary steps to clear the road and construct proper protection wall at the site where the road had been washed away by the river. It further urged to divert the tributaries of river Manglou away from the road into the main river so that the road is not washed away again.
