DIMAPUR — For the agriculture census 2021–22, a total of INR 150 lakh has been allocated to Nagaland during the financial year 2023–24.

Narendra Singh Tomar, the Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, informed the Lok Sabha of this on Friday in a written reply.

Tomar also stated that the agriculture census in India is held every five years and consists of three phases, each lasting a year; however, due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the latest agriculture census (11th in the series) was postponed by one year.

As a result, the agriculture census for 2021–22 was launched on July 28, 2022, and phase I of the census is currently underway, with completion expected in December 2023, he added.

Furthermore, Tomar stated that an amount of INR 7,685 lakh has been allocated to 36 states and UTs for the financial year 2023–24 for the census.

According to the statement, from the northeast, Meghalaya tops the list with a budget allocation of INR 291 lakh, followed by Arunachal Pradesh with INR 240 lakh, Manipur with INR 162 lakh, and Nagaland with INR 150 lakh.

Sikkim received a total allocation of INR 76 lakh, while Tripura was allocated INR 59 lakh, Mizoram received INR 58 lakh, and Assam was allocated INR 35 lakh.
