Advisor Yanthan urges farmers to maximise production

WOKHA — The advisor of Agriculture, Mhathung Yanthan, has encouraged the farmers to maximise their production stating that the government is committed to facilitate distribution to other districts and markets.

Yanthan admitted that most of the farmers were reluctant to undertake production on large scale despite the state endowed with potentials to produce fresh organic vegetables and fruits in large quantity, which often go wasted in the absence of storage facilities.

He was speaking at the inauguration of a new common facility-cum-collection centre in Okotso village under Wokha district on Friday. With the setting up of new facility, he expressed hope that the region would utilised to its full potential.

Yanthan urged the villagers to maximise production by assuring them that the new centre would enable them to store their produce and facilitate distribution to other districts and markets. He maintained that although the storage facility is located in Okotso village, neighbouring villages could use the storage system.

Sunep Longchar, district agriculture officer of Wokha, encouraged the farmers to utilise the centre by stocking with fresh products and making it available to the market on a large scale.

Later after inaugurating the centre, Yanthan visited the Government Higher Secondary School in Sungro town and meet the school authorities.

He expressed joy to learn that Sungro GHSS secured 100 per cent pass result in the recent HSLC examination 2024. He also encouraged the teaching faculty to produce good results consistently.

During interaction, the teachers have voiced concern about inadequate infrastructure in the recently constructed higher secondary school building to which Yanthan informed that he had discussed the issue with the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. He added that the department has promised to address the infrastructure needs by August.

Yanthan also provided a solar inverter, Xerox machine, computer set, two brush cutters and agriculture tools, as agriculture is a vocational subject at the school. He further assured to support with more equipment in the future.

Meanwhile, the principal of GHSS Sungro, R Mhonluni Yanthan, acknowledged the advisor for his genuine support and constant visit to the school.
