KOHIMA — Kudecho Khamo, Advisor for Civil Administrative Works department (CAWD) and Taxes, advised the youth on Monday to be honest and hardworking, adding that mental strength is the most important factor in achieving success in life.

He was speaking as the special guest at the Rünguzumi Youth Association’s (RYA) golden jubilee celebration at Cepi local ground, Rünguzu, Phek district.

In paying tribute to the village’s visionary leaders and pioneers, he expressed hope that the jubilee celebration will propel the village even further into a progressive and forward-thinking society.

The advisor urged the youth not to take sports just as a hobby or for social entertainment, but to take it seriously and be well prepared, citing the changing dynamics in the sports industry.

He stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, who is also the president of the Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA), efforts are being made to promote sports and encourage and empower youth. He also highlighted Nagaland’s improved performance in the recent Northeast Olympic Games.

He added that excelling in sports can take a person to places, garner respect, and secure employment, in addition to earning a livelihood. He emphasised the importance of focusing on individual sports such as wushu, taekwondo, karate, judo, and so on.

Stressing the competitive nature of the world, he stated that one must embrace it, as there is no place for those who are lazy, complacent, or intend to cheat. He also noted the need for hard work and efficiency in agricultural activities and the pursuit of education.

Khamo challenged the youth to be determined and to pursue their goals in all aspects of life, including sports, economics, and livelihood.

On the occasion, RYA’s golden jubilee souvenir was released by guest of honour Vekhoyi Chakhesang, deputy secretary, Food and Civil Supplies, Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection.

Meanwhile, on December 19, the jubilee championship tournament will be held, featuring men’s football and women’s volleyball, while the colony tournament will be held from December 20 to December 23.

Earlier, Khamo had also unveiled a monolith to commemorate the occasion.
