With the declaration of the academic results in various categories, the new academic sessions for higher secondary, undergraduates and post-graduates in some institutions have already commenced their regular classes and some institutions are about to begin. It is a matter of pride for the state that the overall academic performance has leapfrogged into a drastic change over the years with a high pass percentage. Over and above, it is very encouraging to note that girls have been performing much better than their counterpart boys continuously for the last couple of years setting an example to the other states and the world that the Naga society gives equal opportunity to boys and girls without gender bias.

However, owing to the state being located in the terrain hinterland part of India and for want of development, most of the districts in the state lack good educational institutions in their hometown offering sufficient courses of their choice to pursue their desired dream careers. Moreover, there has been a report on many instances of lack of proper infrastructure, amenities, connectivity, etc. in many other districts. This is also one of the primary reasons why many students after passing out their class 10, 10+2 are compelled to go beyond their hometown to pursue their desired courses. In this situation, it is observed that many students are seen thronging in Kohima, Chumukedima and Dimapur for their further studies.

Coupled with this difficulty, not every student is fortunate enough to have their own shelter and relative house for accommodation in these cities. Therefore, over the years it has also been observed that many students come across a harrowing time running from pillar to post in finding rental homes and accommodation close to their institution.

Here are some of the advantages of staying in the on-campus hostels.

With the academic curricula becoming very engaging with co-curricular activities, it demands a lot of time. Therefore, staying in the on-campus hostel during the academic year saves more time. Moreover, staying in the on-campus hostel can offer several advantages, including:

Proximity to the institution: It will save time on commuting, allowing more time for studying or extracurricular activities. It is easily accessible to academic facilities such as libraries, labs, and study halls. It will give more opportunities to meet and build peer relationships, fostering a sense of community. It will become much easier for the students to form study groups and collaborate on assignments and projects.

Convenience: Staying in the campus hostel, the on-campus amenities such as dining halls, gyms, music classes and recreational facilities are easily accessible. It will enhance the student’s focus on academics. Fewer distractions compared to off-campus housing. A structured environment conducive to studying for all students.

Safety and Security: On-campus hostels generally have better security measures, providing a safer living environment, especially for female students. 24/7 security staff and emergency services are often available. Potentially lower unplanned living expenses compared to renting off-campus accommodation.

Involvement in Campus Life: It is much easier for students to participate in campus events, clubs, and activities. It will create a greater sense of belonging and engagement with the institution’s culture. Hostelers can access on-site counselling, first-aid facilities, and academic support services. Moreover, the hostel Wardens will provide additional support and guidance.

These are some of the advantages of staying in the On-campus hostel which will contribute to a more fulfilling and successful academic experience.
