Activision Blizzard to release new ‘Warcraft’ mobile game this year

Dimapur, Feb. 4 (EMN): The Warcraft universe is reportedly about to enter the mobile gaming space, according to Activision Blizzard.

During its fourth quarter 2021 financial report, the company said in a press release that it has plans to release a ‘Warcraft’ mobile game this year.

“Blizzard is planning substantial new content for the Warcraft franchise in 2022, including new experiences in World of Warcraft and Hearthstone, and getting all-new mobile Warcraft content into players’ hands for the first time,” wrote Blizzard.

The Warcraft IP is arguably one of the biggest franchises in the gaming space and a move to mobile devices makes sense for the company. We have already seen franchises like Call of Duty, PUBG and Fortnite enjoy massive success in the mobile gaming market. Blizzard wants to dive into that space with two of its biggest franchises in Warcraft and Diablo.

Blizzard has yet to reveal more details about its upcoming mobile games including a release date, however, the company confirms that players will get “new experiences.”

Blizzard’s upcoming Diablo mobile game titled “Diablo Immortal” has already concluded its public testing with positive feedback, the company claims. The game has been in development since its announcement in 2018 and also scheduled for a 2022 release.

“In the Diablo franchise, Diablo II: Resurrected sold through more units from its September release until the year end than any other Activision Blizzard remaster over an equivalent period. On mobile, Diablo Immortal concluded its public testing with positive feedback,” said Blizzard.

It is rather too early to say anything right now but it will be interesting to see how the Warcraft and Diablo mobile games will pan out for Blizzard. For what’s worth, it was only a matter of time until we saw some form of Warcraft and Diablo game running on mobile devices.
