MOKOKCHUNG— In a tragic incident, a man was killed when a local taxi (Maruthi van) plunged more than 150 feet below NH 702-D between IOC and Khensa village of Mokokchung on Thursday.
According to a source, the deceased has been identified as Makensangba Longchar of Khensa village, and SDPO Mokokchung Tizhisie Pojar, who was on the spot, said that the unfortunate incident happened in an accident prone area.
Witnesses claim that the incident occurred at about 3:30 PM.
Pojar confirmed that the body of the taxi driver was recovered from the spot; however, SDRF personnel have been mobilised for a search operation to ascertain whether there were other passengers or not, and he added that they are also trying to ascertain from the CCTV footage from the neighbouring areas whether there were other passengers in the ill fated taxi.
“We have not yet recovered any bodies except the body of the driver,” he said, adding further investigation is on.
