Dimapur, June 10 (EMN): The Against Corruption and Unabated Taxation (ACAUT) laments that the wave of corruption in Nagaland had gone ‘beyond sanity.’ Expressing anger at the statutory agencies in Nagaland tasked with curbing graft have become ‘decorative,’ the organisation has demanded that the authorities assist in the investigation of MKR Pillai, former additional superintendent of police.

The ACAUT issued a press release on Saturday referring to raids by the Income Tax authorities at some 30 premises of Pandalam-based Sreevalsam group belonging to MKR Pillai, former additional superintendent of police and consultant to the DGP of Nagaland. The raids revealed assets to the tune of more than Rs 1000 crore according to IT officials, the organisation stated.

“The suspicion of the I-T sleuths that Pillai is a front man for politicians and bureaucrats in Nagaland and the central funds for the state being illegally diverted is in all probability true and just the tip of the ice berg therefore the only question before hand is how much evidence can be gathered and how deep can the investigation team go to expose the politician, bureaucrat nexus scam to its roots,” the ACAUT observed.

The organisation minced no words in its remark that Nagaland seems to be run by “buffoons and scoundrels.” They are those who “simply cannot manage the state of the affairs without the non-locals thereby by allowing these non-locals to control and manipulate, these unscrupulous non-locals in the likes of Tinku, Dinnath and Pillai etc…” the ACAUT stated. These people have no concern for the welfare of the Nagas but have been given “safe haven to do their nefarious activities of looting and running the show in the state, shaming the entire Naga intellect,” the press release explained.

The organisation has urged the Income Tax authorities and the State Vigilance Commission of Nagaland to consider the latest case of corruption and its revelation as a wake-up call. ‘One wonders what the I-T Nagaland has been doing all these years,’ the ACAUT remarked.

The group called it ‘tragically unfortunate’ that while in other states the vigilance commissions and IT departments are one of the most feared institutions but ‘here in Nagaland one is reduced to a mere decorative arm of the state and the other a mere Income Tax exemption certificate issuing body.’

“The Income Tax (I-T) Nagaland not only should extend all help to the I-T in their investigation but should also act own their own in unearthing more such shady financial dealings. The SVC should thoroughly investigate his stint in service as consultant and look into his proxy business in Nagaland,” the ACAUT stated.

The organisation has lamented that the level of corruption in Nagaland had ‘gone beyond the limits of sanity that the exposures and revelations of corruption no longer seem to incite anger on the people’s part or shame on the part of the doer.’

The Naga people, as a people, the ACAUT added, “must wake up from this evil spell and restore dignity and pride as a people.”
