Dimapur, Jan. 11 (EMN): The Against Corruption and Unabated Taxation (ACAUT) extended support to the demand of the 15 tribal hohos of Nagaland for early settlement of the Naga political issue.

“The 15 tribal hohos have rightly rebutted that the BJP slogan ‘Election for Solution’ was an inkling of deception and distrust and therefore should not hoodwink the Nagas with another sugar coated slogan or phrase,” ACAUT stated, in a statement on Wednesday.

It said that representation of the tribal hohos to the prime minister for early and acceptable solution “seems to have fallen on deaf ears”.

“Therefore, to express our loss of faith in fulfilling their poll promise, the Naga public should now express our protest against the betrayal by coming out in the streets. To go ahead with the election just to fulfil the constitutional obligation and drive its citizens to another term of unabated taxation with exploding corruption will drive the state of Nagaland to a state of chaos and anarchy,” read the statement.

It said that development has been ‘compromised’ and investment opportunities ‘stalled’ due to the protracted political conflict without settlement.

It went on to state that unity has become a ‘casualty’ in Naga society due to divisions in all possible boundaries, and ‘agencies’ of the government of India are ‘busy splitting Naga political groups into dozens and instantly signing ceasefire agreements’.

“In the state of Nagaland, when the people living below the poverty line and unemployment statistics are among the highest in the country, in a state where the basic human dignity is petered  away, it is only a matter of time that Nagaland will be tagged a failed state,” it read.

ACAUT further called upon the citizens of Nagaland to rise to the occasion and be ready to carry out delegated responsibility when the call is made for “our collective future”.
