A vehicle with many owners: police clip winger

This is one of those cases: A vehicle with a driver who was impersonating another person, while the vehicle’s smart card was in the name of another man even while the actual data showed the registration belong to another vehicle.
Kohima police authorities have on Thursday found a vehicle, a carrier, suspected to have been stolen and have arrested a person in Kohima. Kohima police issued a press release on Friday informing about the arrest,
The police said that enforcement personnel manning the Khuzama check gate stopped a vehicle, a Tata Winger, bearing the registration number NL01C-9846, chassis number MAT460010DUD01943, and engine DWY70472. The vehicle was detained as the driver could not produce relevant vehicle documents, the authorities said.
During preliminary enquiry, the police said, the driver of the vehicle who was identified as one Romeo Kemp was driving with a license impersonating one Lanumar Pongen of 4th Mile in Dimapur. The arrested is a 33-year-old resident of Phensunyu, under Tseminyu subdivision in Kohima district.
“Moreover, the smart card of the vehicle produced by him B/R No. NL01C-9846 was duly verified and found registered in the name of one Toshika Awomi S/o – Kitoho, P/Add – Forest colony, Kohima. However, as per the report ascertained from Transport Vahan Database that the registration No. NL01C-9846 was allotted to a Maruti Van and it was registered from RTO Kohima in the name of Kewekhape,” the police stated in the press release.
“In this connection, the driver Romeo Kemp was taken into police custody for using forged documents and a regular case vide Khuzama P.S Case No. 0049/2015 U/S 379/471 IPC is registered against him for conducting further investigation.”
