SJU observes Janjatiya Gaurav Divas

DIMAPUR — The department of History at St. Joseph University (SJU), Chümoukedima, observed 4th Janjatiya Gaurav Divas on Thursday in the seminar hall on the SJU campus.

The event, themed “Celebrating tribal heritage,” commemorated the 150th birth anniversary of the revered tribal freedom fighter Bhagwan Birsa Munda.

According to an update, in her welcome address, Prof. Dr. Avinuo Chupuo, head of the department of History, highlighted the significance of celebrating and commemorating Janjatiya Gaurav Divas.

She emphasised the significant contributions of tribal communities, particularly their pivotal role in India’s independence struggle. Prof. Chupuo also stressed how tribals, often overlooked in mainstream narratives, played a crucial part in shaping the nation’s history.

The event, attended by 40 students and faculty members, was organised under the guidance of the ‘Heritage Club SJU’ coordinator, Dr. Lanuchilla Changikiri, and assistant professor in the department of History, K Hokato Sumi.
