DIMAPUR — Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, pledged action on a range of pressing issues during a visit to Mokokchung district on Tuesday.

Meeting with district officials and community representatives, the minister heard urgent appeals for intervention in border dispute issues and the repeal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, among others.

According to a DIPR report, the Ao Senden president highlighted concerns about the district’s border disputes with the neighbouring state of Assam, and requested the minister’s intervention for an amicable resolution.

He also appealed for the repeal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act in the district, stating that Mokokchung is a peaceful place and cannot be classified under “disturbed areas.” The president further brought attention to the district’s water scarcity problem, urging the minister to assist in finding a solution.

Representatives from the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) raised the need for a music academy and an electric crematorium in the town, while the president of Watsu Mungdang highlighted the poor condition of roads in Mokokchung town as well as the rural areas. She also emphasised the need for a proper market space for women vegetable vendors. Government departments also presented their grievances to the minister, the update stated.

In response, minister Kumar assured the attendees that he would convey these concerns to the relevant ministries and work towards finding solutions. Following the meeting, the minister visited the Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH).
