KOHIMA — Marking the 71st All India Cooperative Week, the office of the Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Kohima, distributed a total of 23 computer hardware to the beneficiary societies from Kohima and Tseminyu districts at DC’s Conference Hall, Kohima on Tuesday.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, Rhosietho Ngouri handed a monitor each to all the beneficiaries, while the remaining sets of computers along with printers, VPNs and sensors were handed to the beneficiaries later during the day.

The distribution is a part of the project ‘Strengthening of Primary Agricultural Credit Cooperatives (PACS) through computerisation’ aimed at enhancing their efficiency.

In the first phase, a total of 33 functional PACS are being linked with NABARD through a single National Software Network and in the second phase, 198 PACS are to be brought under this project. Towards this, a total of INR 709.17 lakh to Nagaland state has been proposed by the central government for hardware purchase, digitisation and setting up support systems.

The project’s objectives include implementation of a Common Accounting System (CAS) and a Management Information System (MIS) to enable PACS to conduct their operations online and secure refinance or loans for various activities from NABARD via StCBs. It also aims to enhance the efficiency of PACS operations.

ADC Nguori urged the beneficiary societies to think about contributing to one’s own society for a progressive future. With launching of Vikshit Bharat, everyone in the country has been working tirelessly to achieve this vision and as cooperative societies, they must also do its beat by contributing to their own locality, he said.

Pointing out that Kohima and Tseminyu districts are placed at advantaged locations with markets within their reach, he urged cooperative societies from the two districts to put in extra effort in contributing to the society.

Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Rokovisa Chase, informed that the All India Cooperative Week is being held from November 14 to 20 is for cooperative societies to come and share their success stories, their challenges and visions ahead. Their sharing will be taken into account and formulate policies accordingly.

He disclosed that the Indian economy is growing at a fast pace but 40 per cent of India’s wealth is controlled by one per cent of population (multi-millionaires). Therefore, the central government is now focusing on economy via cooperative societies. Around 74 schemes come under the fold of cooperative societies.

Speaking on the week’s theme ‘Role of cooperatives in building Viksit Bharat,’ he said that cooperatives can play a big role in addressing the burning issues of unemployment in the state.

There are over 70000 registered educated unemployed youths in the state. Through cooperative, he said the educated unemployed youths can form societies and avail schemes and programmes for setting up various projects.

Short speeches were delivered by representatives from Chedema Village Integrated MPCS Ltd., Kohima and Sha Agri and Allied CS Ltd. Tseminyu.

Schemes and programmes viable for cooperative societies in Nagaland included strengthening of PACS through computerisation, establishment of multipurpose PACS, dairy, fisheries, cooperative societies in every panchayat, village, grain storage programme, common service centres, LPG distributorship, PACs for new petrol, diesel pump dealerships, Jan Aushadhi Kendra, and micro-ATMs, etc.
