NPF remains firm in support of Manipur BJP government
IMPHAL — A day after the National People’s Party (NPP) withdrew its support from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in Manipur, the Naga People’s Front (NPF) affirmed its continued backing.
While the NPP cited concerns over law and order, the NPF, a key coalition partner with five legislators in the Assembly, reiterated its commitment to the ruling coalition.

NPF Manipur unit President and cabinet minister Awangbow Newmai reaffirmed the party’s support during a Monday afternoon press conference at his Lamphelpat, Imphal, residence. “We will continue to support the government since we continue to be part of the coalition”, Newmai stated in response to questions about the NPF’s alliance.
Despite the NPP’s withdrawal, the BJP-led government retains a comfortable majority in the 60-member assembly with a support base well above the halfway mark.
Meanwhile, eight office bearers and executive members of the BJP Jiribam Mandal resigned, citing the “unwelcome/helpless situation” in Jiribam and Manipur. Their resignation letter was submitted to the BJP Manipur Pradesh President on Monday.
